Pagan Celebrant

Ness Bosch was the 1st Spanish Speaking Celebrant Authorized by the General Registrar of Scotland. She is now an Independent Celebrant and weaves her deep ritual knowledge to celebrate the love of the couples that seek her.  Ness provides Handfastings, as well as other Ceremonies and Rites of Passage, such as naming ceremonies, coming of age ceremonies...

Weddings are bespoke, tailored for the couple, after all it is your special day and we will work hand in hand with you so that the celebration matches your expectations, hopes and dreams and that reflects and honors your love, your spiritual path and tradition. I can even include elements of different traditions in the same ceremony if required.

She can Officiate the Ceremonies completely in English, Spanish and partly in French and Italian.

Have you already thought about where you want to celebrate your ceremony? Actually We can celebrate it wherever you want, in a private building, outdoors: on a beach, a picturesque place or even historical place such as a Castle or a Stone Circle, always bearing in mind that the place may require a special permit that must be requested in advance. That is why I recommend that you give me enough time to coordinate these types of details with you. The place is certainly an important part of the ceremony, since it also has to be able to accommodate your guests.

There are many things to prepare for a ceremony, so we repeat, the sooner you contact me the better, especially if you want to reserve an specific date.

I recommend reserving the date at least 90 days before the ceremony, to have enough time to create something really special together and be sure that all the necessary documentation is in order.

I will reserve the full day exclusively for your ceremony, so it gives you flexibility to choose the time that best suits you and know that we will be prepared for any last-minute hiccups.

A little about my Pagan Handfastings

As Pagan Celebrant, my  Handfastings of course contain pagan elements and Earth based Spirituality. Each wedding is unique because each couple is unique. Even in the same couple, each one can have different spiritual practices that can be integrated into the same marriage ritual or handfasting to satisfy both parties, although there are always common elements. Some of the common elements in pagan weddings or handfastings can be the following:

  • Offerings to the Spirits of the Place
  • Purification of space and assistants
  • Opening of sacred space
  • Invitation to the spirits or deities
  • Blessings
  • Exchange of vows
  • Sharing food or drink
  • Biding of hands
  • Jump the broomstick

Of course these are common elements but they do not have to be included all in the ritual since as we said the rituals are bespoke. Anyone with a connection to nature, no matter your tradition or philosophy, can request a Handfasting ceremony.

But what is a Handfasting?

Sure there are people familiar with the concept, but let's talk a bit about it.

The origin of Handfasting is attributed to the Celtic people, who made their way to the British Islands coming from Europe, bringing with them customs, religious practices and their Gods, or at least we can assume that. Be that as it may, we know that the act of binding hands continues through the centuries until the Middle Ages and our times. From what through time and customs was lost from the original rite, the act of joining hands with a cord survives, as a sealing the agreement between the couple.

The Handfasting can have a duration of 1 year and a day, something like a trial pre-marriage, or symbol of the marriage commitment, but the handfasting can also be given another period of duration or be permanent depending on what is established in the vows of the ritual.
